MediStart is one of the leading agencies for arranging medical study places for school leavers from Germany. The international agency advises prospective students and their parents on studying human medicine without a numerus clausus or waiting period. MediStart organises the "MediTest-EU" admissions test and interview required for proof of eligibility to study medicine online from home.
Our partner ensures a smooth process during the entire application phase and accompanies the scholarship holders as a mentor on site from the start of their studies right through to graduation. MediStart also helps with finding accommodation, registration office matters, enrolment and networking with other German students who have already been in the country for some time.
Further information about MediStart, the contact persons and their services can be found at: www.medistart.de.
Each academic year, the Arberland Clinics offer up to three prospective students of human medicine an attractive study grant for a maximum of twelve semesters in the form of a scholarship.
The costs are made up as follows (as at December 2023)
- Two-day compulsory test preparation course "MediTest-EU" (currently 980 euros)
- Application fee + realisation of "MediTest-EU" (currently 650 Euro plus VAT)
- Translation costs, notarisation of certificates etc. (currently around 300 euros)
- Optional: three-week preparatory course for the English-language degree programme (currently 2,900 euros)
- Tuition costs for 12 semesters (currently 5,000 euros per semester) = 60,000 euros total costs
- Costs MediStart (= one-off annual tuition fee; currently 10,000 euros plus VAT)
The total costs for the study period of six years therefore amount to around 77,000 euros. The Arberland Clinics cover around 2/3 of the total costs, 1/3 of the costs (i.e. around 25,000 euros) are to be borne by the scholarship holder. The details of the amount of the scholarship payments made are regulated by a special scholarship agreement to be concluded between Arberlandkliniken and the scholarship holder.
- After completing their studies, the scholarship holders are contractually bound to the Arberlandkliniken for at least four years (Full-time contract as assistant doctor, recruitment according to TV-Ärzte/VKA with classification in EG I level 1)
- Any uncertainties, such as dropping out or interrupting studies, are regulated within the framework of the scholarship agreement, which also contains conditions on repayment modalities, among other things.
- In the event of dropping out or failing to complete the course, all costs previously borne by the Arberlandklinik must be repaid in full by the scholarship holder (payment in instalments of at least 500 euros per month is possible).
- If the scholarship holder does not take up employment at the Arberlandkliniken after completing their studies, all costs previously borne by the Arberlandklinik must be repaid in full by the scholarship holder (payment in instalments of at least 500 euros per month is possible).
- If the scholarship holder leaves the clinics before the end of the four-year contract, the scholarship payments made must be repaid on a pro rata basis.
Applicants must declare that they come from or live in the administrative districts of Lower Bavaria or Upper Palatinate and have a genuine interest in studying human medicine.
Further requirements are:
- General higher education entrance qualification or alternatively an entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences with a completed bachelor's degree
- The applicant's Abitur grade does not play a role in admission to the degree programme
- As the degree programme is taught in English, students must have at least 4 points or better in English at upper secondary level.
- A compulsory 2-day preparation course is held to optimise test preparation for the "MediTest-EU" entrance exam. This is also carried out online at the participant's home.
- The "MediTest-EU" entrance examination including a motivation interview must be passed for admission to the degree programme. The test consists of a written part (60% -> approx. 120 minutes) focussing on biology/chemistry/general knowledge and a motivation and aptitude interview (40% -> approx. 15-20 minutes). The test is carried out online at the participant's home via PC/notebook/tablet. The entrance exam is successfully passed if at least 70% of the points to be achieved have been achieved.
- After passing the selection test, the scholarship holder has the option of taking part in a three-week course in English to prepare for their studies. MediStart will clarify the details.
- The completion of an English-language medical degree programme abroad generally requires basic knowledge of the local language in the clinical semesters, i.e. basic knowledge of the Croatian language at B2 level must be acquired and demonstrated during the course of the degree programme.
- During their studies, the scholarship holder will be provided with a medical contact person for questions relating to their medical studies. The scholarship holder should complete internships (clinical traineeship, nursing internship, etc.) within the Arberland Clinics as part of their studies, if this is recognised according to the study or examination regulations.
- After successfully completing their studies in human medicine in Rijeka, the prospective doctor decides in which speciality they would like to be employed at the Arberland Clinics. They can choose between general surgery, trauma surgery & orthopaedics, visceral surgery, vascular surgery, anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine and internal medicine.
Our aim is to retain the scholarship holders at the Arberland Clinics at an early stage. We support this, for example, through the annual "Clinic Student Day" or by sharing information via the company's employee app. In addition to the opportunity to get to know each other and exchange ideas with the future employer, the "Clinic Student Day" also includes informative presentations by our doctors.
